February Big of the Month: Lauren Davis
This month, we would like to recognize a school-based Big Sister that has done an outstanding job since she was matched in the Fall. Lauren Davis is a University of Alabama at Huntsville student athlete that goes to school full-time, runs track for the University, and still dedicates at least four hours a month to her Little Sister Aniya. When Lauren and Aniya were first matched at Morris Elementary, Aniya would barely speak during the pre-match meeting. She was so nervous and shy! Lauren was willing to give this match a shot anyway, and began seeing her Little Sister twice a week. They quickly developed a bonding relationship and Aniya has already developed strong self-confidence that has prompted her to open up and become more socially involved with her peers.
One of the most significant things about this match, is that when Aniya transferred schools at the beginning of the second semester, Lauren did not let it deter her from seeing her little. Aniya was SO worried that her big sister would not be able to continue meeting with her now that she was at Lakewood Elementary. Lauren understands and values the importance of developing a strong one-to-one mentoring relationship and THAT is what makes a match successful. Lauren very willingly drives out of her way, amid her busy full-time student schedule, to see Aniya and continue to allow their relationship to grow and develop.
Thank you, Lauren, for your passion and dedication to helping serve the children of North Alabama to help change their lives for the better, forever.
